The full name of the Namdroling Monastery is Thegchog Namdrol Shedrub Daryeling. Established in 1963 by His Holiness Pema Norbu Rinpoche, the 11th throne-holder of the Palyul Lineage of the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism, the monastery's initial structure was crafted from bamboo and covered an area of 80 sq feet. The present 80 sqm area owes its existence to the benevolence of the Indian government, which donated the land to Tibetan refugees settling in the region.
